One of the most common things we hear from APMP members is, “I’d love to connect with other proposal professionals near me; I just don’t know how.” That’s where the APMP Greater Midwest Chapter’s Local Meetups program comes in.

Local meetups are a simple, low-pressure way to build genuine connections with proposal pros in your own geography, with full Chapter support behind you. And if you choose to host, the benefits extend well beyond the time spent at the event itself.

What’s in It for You as a Host?

Hosting a local meetup is about creating space for connection, and that comes with real, tangible benefits.

 Expand Your Local Professional Network

As a host, you become a connector in your area. You’ll meet people who face similar proposal challenges, work in adjacent industries, and may become future collaborators, mentors, or trusted sounding boards.

 Raise Your Professional Visibility

Hosting puts your name front and center in a natural, authentic way. You’re not self‑promoting; you’re facilitating community. That kind of leadership is noticed by peers and APMP leadership alike.

Shape Conversations That Matter to You

Local meetups can be focused or free flowing. You might spark discussion around career development, workload challenges, AI in proposals, or what’s working well across teams and industries. Or you can keep it purely social. Either way, you help create a space where members learn from one another.

Get More Value from Your APMP Membership

Many members find that local meetups are where APMP feels most real. Hosting deepens your connection to the Chapter and helps turn a professional association into a true community of peers.

Hosting a Meetup Is Easier Than You Think

If hosting feels intimidating, here’s the reality: This is not a heavy lift, and you are never doing it alone. The Local Meetups program is intentionally designed to keep hosting manageable and flexible.

You don’t need to:

  • Be an event planner
  • Build a formal agenda
  • Create marketing materials from scratch
  • Cover costs out of pocket

You do get:

  • Ready-to-use invitation templates
  • Support selecting a date, time, and venue
  • Promotion through Chapter email, social media, and the website
  • Chapter‑sponsored food reimbursement

Most meetups are simple by design. Reserve a table at a restaurant or coffee shop, show up, and connect. You focus on hosting while the Chapter provides structure, tools, and ongoing support.

No “Perfect Location” Required

You don’t need to live in a major metro area to host a successful meetup. Some of the most valuable conversations happen in smaller groups and less obvious locations. If there are APMP members within driving distance, there is an opportunity to connect.

And yes, non‑members are welcome too. Meetups are a great way to introduce others to APMP in a relaxed, low‑commitment setting.
