First off, I want to give a shout-out to our phenomenal 2022 GMC Board (led by Kat Becchina) for a successful and progressive year! Thank you, all, for your incredible work setting the team up for, what I feel, will be another great year.

As we settle into 2023, I wanted to take this opportunity to share my vision for our chapter. We have seen a lot of growth over the past few years, which is quite the feat given the continued challenges perpetuated by COVID-19 pandemic and other global issues. It takes a team of purpose-driven individuals to accomplish such growth, and I applaud each of you for your contributions.

As our chapter has grown, our Board of Directors, committee, and chapter members challenged themselves to find new and creative mediums for member engagement. In addition to our tried-and-true forms of engagement (webinars, mentorship partnerships, annual Symposium), last year GMC members had access to our booth at Bid and Proposal Con (BPC) in Dallas, a new monthly podcast, monthly virtual coffee chats, and community service opportunities. It is a lot to keep track of – even for those of us in charge of these initiatives.

As a Board, we discussed being more intentional with events, including maintaining a more visible and accurate events calendar. The biggest news from this conversation: there will not be a GMC Symposium in 2023. Instead, we will have an interactive booth at BPC in Orlando May 2023 and encourage GMC members to attend. Over the last year, several members offered critical feedback: with so much going on, members are flooded with correspondence and information via social media or email, not knowing which email is tagged to which event. We heard you. To eliminate future confusion, we are making strides to consolidate and streamline communication. We ask for a grace period as we work through timelines and editorial calendars on the backend.

We encourage you to continue to provide feedback. Goals and initiatives are driven by feedback – where can we improve or add value? Please reach out any time at info@gmcapmp.org to submit your ideas and suggestions.

You’ll find I’m a big fan of the word “team” and keep in mind the very essence of what the word means. My hope is our chapter continues to grow not only as a professional organization with a strong sense of community and teamwork, but that we as individuals grow personally, perhaps helping each other along the way.
